The Department of Social Services and Health Care began its operations on 1 January 2013. There are 15 000 professionals working at the department. The yearly budget for social and health services is € 2.1 billion, which equals to approximately € 3,500 for each citizen of Helsinki.
The Social Services Department and the Health Centre have been merged into one department, and a separate department has been established for children's daycare services in Finnish. The new departments, Department of Social Services and Health Care and Department of Early Education and Care, began their operations on 01 January 2013. These new departments are managed by the Social Services and Health Care Committee and the Early Education and Care Committee. The Department of Social Services and Health Care employs approximately 15,000 professionals. The Early Education and Care Department has approximately 5,000 employees in children's daycare services.
