Description:

The Department of Translational Medical Sciences was formed by the aggregation of faculty from the departments of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery and Clinical Pathology. It serves the purpose of promoting the transfer of knowledge gained from basic research to clinical diagnosis and pathological processes at different stages of life. The Department intends to respond to the changing needs of the scientific community increasingly interested in the cross-cutting aspects of bioscience (translational research) and the demands of technology transfer and application in the biomedical field. The main feature of this research is the study of the molecular basis and pathophysiology of inherited diseases, metabolic, endocrine, cardiovascular, gastroenterological and immune system with the aim to integrate synergistically high expertise in pediatric, adult and the elderly. Another item of particular relevance to this research is the strong osmosis between the different areas and their vocation defined translational evidenced by specific and well-established expertise in these areas.
