The Centre for Health Services Research (CHSR) was established in 1998.
It comes under the authority of the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology & Medical Statistics (http://www.euroipn.org/hygiene), Medical School (http://www.med.uoa.gr/), University of Athens (http://www.uoa.gr/).
Yannis Tountas, Associate Professor in Social Medicine, is the Head of the CHSR. Since 2010, the CHSR is a WHO Collaborating Centre.
The CHSR has been intensively involved in planning, organising and evaluating programs and services of health promotion and education for many years. The CHSR is actively providing multiple types of training (vocational, undergraduate, graduate, professional) in health services and health promotion and education to various audiences. Additionally, the CHSR demonstrates a strong scientific interest through involving in research on health services and health promotion development and through producing original research articles, evaluation reports, tools and other publications. It has conducted over 100 studies and projects concerning health promotion and education programmes, epidemiological studies, studies of medical informatics, telemedicine, planning and sustainability of health services as well as studies about insurance agencies of various groups of the population. A number of institutions and organizations, such as the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity, the Social Insurance Institute, the Total Care Network, the network of European Master for Health Promotion and various hospitals and health services make use of the services offered by the CHSR. Moreover, the CHSR offers to Medical School of Athens the opportunity to cooperate in the field of health services, health promotion and health education with university institutions of other countries - mainly members of European Union.
