In Umeå University, Food and Nutrition research began in 1995. The subject is interdisciplinary and examines people’s relationship with food.
The department now has some sixteen employees working with this research; one professor, one visiting professor, two associate professors, six PhDs and seven graduate students (two of which were admitted through the medical faculty). The department's research focuses, in general terms, on the diet and health of different groups and has so far resulted in five dissertations (link to thesis). The diet and health of children is a major theme in this research profile and includes a number of different projects.
